Win Daraa J tickets - Sydney March 7 @ Candy's
DAARA J - AFRICAN HIP HOP PHENOMENON
EXCLUSIVE SHOWCASE IN SYDNEY
MARCH 7 @ CANDY'S APARTMENT
FROM 7.30 PM

* ALBUM OUT ON WRASSE RECORDS/FILTER MUSIC (A DIVISION OF SHOCK RECORDS)
** WINNERS - BEST AFRICAN ACT - WORLD MUSIC AWARDS 2004
*** NO.1 ON WORLD MUSIC CHARTS (EUROPE)
"Daara J means 'school of life.' With every production, we want to give an education to our listeners," says group member Aladji Man. In the vein
of De La Soul, Public Enemy, and Blackstar, Boomerang strays from the typically machismo and materialistic subject matter permeating America's
mainstream rap scene. Joining the likes of Positive Black Soul and MC Solaar as one of Senegal's elite hip hop crews, Daara J uses their words as a
positive force.

Anyone know what time they get on and off?
Gotta work and might be a tad late that is all...

it got a bit reggae for my taste but the hip hop was first rate.
the only thing that would have improved the night was if we we all in Senegal, kicking back, listening, drinking rum, early evening....thats what
dreams are made of.

Didn't realise 7.30 actually meant 7.30.
Caught the encore and although also a bit generic reggae for my taste they were a very lively bunch. Wouldn't mind catching them properly sometime.
Anyone know if they're doing any other shows?

Missed it also, but when I went to bed at 2:30AM last night I flicked onto the BBC & heard Part One of a Music special on Ghanaian & Nigerian Hip Hop
called Hip Life. The following part will be on next week. Same time Monday 2:30AM Sydney time.
Go here & I think they keep it online for a week.
Very interesting....
